The Post-Antibiotic Era: Preventing a Treatment Crisis

Resistance to antibiotics is becoming one of the main problems of contemporary healthcare. The increasing number of resistant microorganisms, irrational use of antibiotics, and a lack of progress in developing novel antimicrobial drugs make an urgent problem of preventing antimicrobial resistance. This session will analyze the problem of AMR burden and its impact on the work of hospitals and communities and on public health care system.

This session will cover such topics as novel mechanisms of bacteria resistance to medications, multidrug-resistant organisms, antimicrobial stewardship programs, and advances in rapid diagnostics. Participants of the session will discuss how the evidence-based medication prescription, infection control strategies, and surveillance systems may help in the reduction of resistant microorganisms.

The topic of this session includes some specific problems, for instance, the issue of treatment of infections that are resistant to antibiotics.

The innovation in treatment of infections with resistant pathogens will be discussed during the session. They include the development of new antimicrobial drugs, bacteriophage therapy, alternative approaches to treating infections, and precision medicine.
