Infectious diseases could be transmitted in LTC facilities, rehabilitation, residential care, and other communal settings where people reside, work, and receive services. Individuals within these facilities can experience increased risk of infection due to their age, pre-existing health issues, proximity to others, or exposure to healthcare workers. In this session, we will discuss the infection prevention strategies relevant to the particularities of care delivery outside of the hospital environment.
Among the scientific presentations, there will be sessions on prevention of respiratory infections, vaccination policies, hand hygiene, environmental cleaning, recognizing an outbreak, and proper use of personal protective equipment. The scientists may also look into such aspects of infection control as surveillance for infections in residential care facilities, staff education, communication during an outbreak, and antimicrobial resistant organisms management. Special attention will be paid to infection prevention balance with residents' well-being, socialization, and services provision.
We welcome public health experts, infection control professionals, geriatric care specialists, epidemiologists, and community health scientists to present their practical experience and research findings. The topics of the presentation could include frameworks for infection prevention, outbreak response evaluation, staff education, and other interventions improving compliance with infection prevention guidelines.
