3rd Edition of Infectious Diseases World Conference 2027

Scientific Sessions - IDWC 2027

Genomic Epidemiology and Pathogen Evolution

Genomic epidemiology merges pathogen genomics with epidemiology to study the epidemiology of diseases, identify similar infections, and the evolution of infectious pathogens. The technological advances in sequencing have made it easier for scientists to look at the variation of genes, emerging pathogens, and outbreaks. This session aims to look at how genomic information can aid the traditional approach of studying infectious diseases and their spread.

The topics include whole-genome sequencing, molecular phylogenetics, genomic clusters, pathogen evolution, and genetic markers that can help in the determination of antimicrobial resistance or change in the characteristics of the pathogens. It also aims to look at the application of genomics in outbreak studies, transmission networks, use of laboratory data, and the challenges involved in the process.

Genomic researchers, molecular microbiologists, epidemiologists, bioinformaticians, and infectious disease experts are encouraged to submit research work on pathogen genomics and surveillance. Possible contributions may cover areas such as investigations of outbreaks, comparative genomic studies, assessments of sequencing technologies, and ways to incorporate genomics into public health decisions. The session’s objective is to develop practical aspects of pathogen genomics and improve cooperation among laboratories, clinics, and surveillance centers.
