3rd Edition of Infectious Diseases World Conference 2027

Scientific Sessions - IDWC 2027

Biofilms and Persistent Microbial Infections

Microbial biofilms are complex microbial communities attached to a surface and embedded in an extracellular matrix providing protection. They can cause persistent infection making treatment difficult due to reduced permeability and survival of microorganisms. This session will consider the biology of biofilm formation, maturation, dispersion, and interactions with host tissues with a special focus on its clinical relevance.

The research topics may include, but not limited to, infections associated with biofilms formed on medical devices, wounds, implanted materials, and other tissues where microbes can form a community and remain attached for a prolonged period of time. Microbial communication, metabolic adaptations, increased tolerance to antimicrobials, and interactions with host tissues will be considered. In addition, new methods of biofilm dispersal, prevention, and treatment will be discussed.

We invite microbiologists, clinicians specializing in infectious diseases, biomaterials scientists, and pharmaceutical scientists to submit presentations related to the experimental and clinical aspects of biofilm-related infections. The presentations may deal with improved diagnostics, treatment efficacy, prevention approaches, and development of new biomaterials resistant to biofilm formation.
