An accurate and precise diagnosis is key in treating infectious diseases. With recent developments in molecular diagnostic tests, the capacity to diagnose pathogens, recognize genetic markers, and distinguish between similar microorganisms has increased. The topic of this session will be innovations in diagnostic technology, which includes nucleic acid amplification technologies, fast molecular assays, biosensors, and point-of-care devices.
The session will cover the development and validation of diagnostic assays for bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. These topics include the use of multiplexing techniques, the sensitivity and specificity of the diagnostic tests, the identification of antimicrobial resistance markers, sample preparation techniques, and how the results obtained from the laboratory can be integrated into the clinical process. Diagnostic challenges in rural health care centers and other resource poor environments will also be covered.
Researchers, laboratory scientists, clinicians, biotechnologists, and developers of diagnostic technologies are invited to present research related to new testing technologies and their application in clinical settings. Papers may focus on the accuracy of tests, their cost-effectiveness, challenges associated with their implementation, and methods of increasing access to proper testing. This workshop is designed to encourage cooperation between diagnostic researchers and healthcare professionals in order to improve early diagnosis and treatment of diseases.
