3rd Edition of Infectious Diseases World Conference 2027

Scientific Sessions - IDWC 2026

Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases

The Emerging and Re-Emerging Infectious Diseases session at the IDWC will focus on the global emergence of infectious disease threats and how globalisation, urbanisation, and ecological disruption drive the spread of pathogens. The panellists will also discuss zoonotic spillover events and their increased frequency in the last several decades. There will be emphasis on diseases that have re-emerged after declining. The attendees will gain an understanding of some of the underlying causes of the resurgence of infectious diseases. The IDWC  will serve as a collaborative venue for sharing data on the surveillance of these infectious diseases and on response strategies. The session will include discussions related to preparedness and early warning systems.

The next session of this conference will provide information on emerging infectious diseases by focusing on the influence of pathogen evolution, the mutation processes that occur, and how these factors affect transmission dynamics. Topics will include recent research on viral adaptability and mechanisms of resistance. Genomic sequencing will be described in detail as a key tool for tracking and monitoring outbreaks of new pathogens and relevant variants. Additionally, participants will learn how predictive models can be used for forecasting outbreaks and for outbreak preparedness. IDWC  will also encourage interdisciplinary collaboration among virologists, epidemiologists, and public health practitioners.

The final portion of this session will focus on the policy frameworks and international partnerships necessary for effective management of emerging infectious disease threats. Panellists will discuss the coordinated response needed from all countries to prevent future disease outbreaks. Additionally, the session will include a discussion of ethical issues related to containing an outbreak and the appropriate allocation of limited outbreak response resources. IDWC will promote equitable access to healthcare and the implementation of preventive measures worldwide. The session will conclude with presenters providing strategies for the future to improve epidemic and pandemic disease prevention and control.
